McMurdo Sound Map & Location of the MOO

 

The location of the McMurdo Oceanographic Observatory at 21m below sea level at GPS location S77.85103687, E166.66448853. The Observatory was Installed and maintained by Paul A. Cziko, Principal Investigator, along with team members of group B-195-M. The project is supported by the United States Antarctic Program and funded by the U.S.

The McMurdo Oceanographic Observatory (white star, (S 77.85103687, E 166.66448853) is located in McMurdo Sound, Ross Sea, Antarctica, adjacent to the United States Antarctic Program's McMurdo Station. McMurdo Sound is an ice-covered embayment bounded by the Antarctic continent to the west, Ross Island to the east, and the massive, floating Ross Ice shelf to the south. Mount Erebus, a 12,500-ft (3,800m) active volcano continuously belches smoke nearby.
